Another year, another Call of Duty game. Tomorrow (Friday 25th October) is the day that Call of Duty fans have been waiting for, and it’s going to be a good one!
Ignoring the fact that some PS4 players are already playing the game thanks to an early shipment, the rest of us finally get to jump into the hotly anticipated game for the three main game types: the new campaign, spec ops and the online multiplayer experience.
So, why is this game different from all of the others? Well, for many, this is the reboot of the older Call of Duty games that longer-standing players have been waiting for. Channelling gameplay from the earlier Modern Warfare games and bringing it all back to boots on the ground and a whole host of new game modes, it stands to be a potential turning point for Call of Duty, which in recent years feels like it’s been lacking something.
It might just be that we’re all bored of the ridiculous skins, emotes and loot box style gaming that we need something fresh and more like what we had in the old days, or it might be that the later games just lack the general war game feel that Battlefield has handled so well in recent years.
It’s true that an FPS doesn’t have to be 64 players like Battlefront and Battlefield but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is bringing this element as an option. The larger scale online game mode feels more like what we’ve played on Battlefield 4 in the form of conquest.
Tomorrow’s game also goes the other way though, bringing an online game mode that involves just 4 players, much like Halo’s gamemode ‘Doubles’.
When we recently had the chance to play the new game at EGX 2019 in London, it immediately felt easy to play. The map felt intuitive, the guns felt balanced and sounded great and the whole game felt fun, interesting and open to a lot of potential.
Every game seems to have it’s teething problems, and we’re fully expecting that when we log on tomorrow but we’re also excited to play and share our experience as we play through everything from the campaign to the different online gamemodes. Here we go, it’s time for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare!
