What’s a crazy crossover? It’s a mix of the last two games you played creating some sort of cool or crazy (or sometimes perfectly logical!) hybrid game or game mode.
Today’s crazy crossover is a combination of the last two games I have played: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fuelled. Let’s start with a bit of background.
What we have here is the latest installment of the arcade first person shooter, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. An entirely online game without a campaign, Black Ops 4 brings an odd mix to the party, from it’s general PVP online multiplayer to it’s new battle royale mode, Blackout through to the extremely popular ‘Zombies’ game mode.
Crash Team Racing is a very different offering, a remake of a classic, very successful arcade kart racer that brings the Crash Bandicoot game series and universe to a battle kart game. You can either play through the ‘campaign’ unlocking new accessories, vehicles and characters or you can go up against friends to battle your way to the finish line.
So… to the crossover. What happens when we take the two very different games and create a new game or gamemode from them. Well, in this case, I’m going to suggest a new gamemode combining Call of Duty’s newest game addition, Blackout and Crash Team Racing’s classic power-ups and karts.
For this crossover, I’m going to pitch the idea of a time limited Blackout gamemode in which all of the weapons are replaced by Crash Team Racing power-up boxes that the character has to break and use to their advantage to defeat enemy players.
The objective of the game is the same as Blackout currently is, it’s battle royale rules, last person standing, only in this version, conventional weapons and vehicles don’t exist and players have to make do with Crash Team Racing karts to get around.
It would likely make the game much more difficult but would add an extra layer of fun to the game. I think I would spend most of the game looking for the missiles but TNT, Nitro, potions, shields and of course the coveted Aku Aku mask would all come in handy as the circle draws in.
A few other ideas for the game mode would include collecting apples to keep your health up and only being able to carry a couple power-ups at any one time (the usual CTR one might be a bit tricky). This addition would keep players on their toes and would make them think about the best thing to have equipped at any one time knowing that they can’t pick anything else up until they’ve used or dropped their current power-ups.
So there you have it, my crazy crossover between Crash Team Racing and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – a new take on the CoD online gamemode, Blackout, but with the weapons replaced with CTR power-ups and the vehicles replaced with karts!
